INNKEEPER'S DISPATCH

Foodtown, Oregon

Not too long ago, many Ashland restaurants would take a long winter break, but today, Ashland’s thriving food scene serves some of the best food in the Pacific Northwest all year long.

Once best known as a theater town, Ashland has become a hotspot on foodie maps for good reason, not the least of which are all the amazing new restaurants that recently opened.

If it’s been a bit since you’ve been back, here are a few new favorites I recommend you try on your next trip to town. I hope to see you at breakfast soon!

NAMA — Elevated Surf & Turf

Created by four-time James Beard Best Chef nominee Josh Dorcak behind MÄS, NAMA is a local foodie phenom. Part oyster bar, party sushi joint, party comfort cafe... NAMA is a real deal one-of-a-kind restaurant that breaks all the wrong rules in all the right ways.

Every guest enjoys a front-row seat to a culinary crew of tastemasters who take ordinary dishes like hot dogs and tostadas to places on your palate you never knew possible.

Feeling fancy? They’ve got you covered. Tuck into primo proteins like dry-aged tuna and A5 wagyu. At NAMA, caviar is considered a staple, not a luxury, and their selection of exceptional imported sake is unrivalled in the region.

Tlalli — Latin Soul Food

Tlalli is one of the recent openings in Ashland’s historic railroad district. Their authentic ancestral dishes deliver a flavors found nowhere else in town.

With a seasonal menu that changes often, you’ll enjoy a rotating selection of soups, salads, and some of the tastiest tacos north of the border. Large plates feature dishes like pan-seared salmon, slow-braised pork, and grilled grass-fed ribeye, all prepared with layers and layers of big Latin flavors.

I love their mole sauce served over protiens like duck confit. It’s the most incredible sauce I’ve ever tasted. The ancestral flavor is incredibly complex, unique and keeps me coming back for more.

Cocorico — Neo Rustic Kitchen

Owned and operated by husband-and-wine team Nat and Grace Borsi, Cocorico has been a hit since opening night. It’s a festive European-style eatery serving delicious modern Mediterranean cuisine.

Night after night, Chef Nat packs the house, with waiting lists and lines to get in. Grace lives up to her name with a welcome so warm that everyone feels like family. The food is rustic yet refined and always exceptional.

I love dining here and invite you to check out the seasonal menu, which changes daily. Reservations are recommended to secure a seat at this hotspot, especially in high season.
